> With this quote, we wish to pay tribute to the colosal work of this biologist, and doctor of ecology whose great oeuvre, Dictionnaire encyclopédique de la diversité biologique et de la conservation de la nature (The Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Biological Diversity and Nature Conservation) ─ compiled over the course of more than ten years ─ is the basis of many of the definitions found in this glossary. Valeur économique totale

♦ La valeur économique totale d’une ressource environnementale consiste en sa valeur d’usage (UV) et de non usage (NUV).
La valeur d’usage peut être décomposée entre la valeur d’usage direct (DUV) et la valeur d’usage indirect (IUV) et la valeur d’option (OV). Les valeurs de non usage peuvent être décomposées en la valeur de legs (BV) et la valeur d’existence (XV). La valeur de legs se réfère aux avantages résultant de la ressource environnementale dans le futur. La valeur d’existence se réfère aux avantages dérivés de la protection de la ressource.
L’équation prend donc la forme de :

TEV = UV + NUV = (DUV + IUV + OV) + (XV + BV)
