The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a Central African country with an estimated population of over 100 million in 2020, three-quarters living below the poverty line. Like most countries in Central Africa, the population of the DRC is highly dependent on forest resources for its survival, resulting in degradation of soils and natural vegetation, but also habitat fragmentation and deforestation.
